Americans rekindle winning spirit

topics-19-01.jpgTokyo, September 26, 2007: With a bronze medal in the 2007 FIVB World League and a gold in the recent NORCECA Championship, the United States have clearly shaken off their World Championship blues.
The Americans were a major disappointment at the 2006 World Championship in Japan, losing their first two matches to Venezuela and Bulgaria and eventually finishing a lowly 10th of 24 teams.
On a World League visit to Japan earlier this season, USA head coach Hugh McCutcheon spoke of the new spirit and ambition in the ranks after the problems of last year. …More

Bulgaria, Korea receive wild cards for men’s World Cup

topics-18-01.jpgTokyo, September 26, 2007: Bulgaria and Korea have been given the two wild cards for the men’s World Cup in Japan.
The FIVB made the announcement at their headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, on September 25 to complete the 12-strong field for the November 18-December 2 event.
“The FIVB and the organizers have decided to assign the two wild cards to Bulgaria and Korea,” the world governing body said in a press release. …More

USA, Puerto Rico join World Cup party

topics-17-01.jpgTokyo, September 25, 2007: The United States and Puerto Rico earned tickets to the men’s World Cup in Japan from the recently concluded NORCECA Continental Championship in Anaheim, California.
The Americans beat Puerto Rico 3-1 in the final at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena on Friday, September 21, to qualify for the 12-team World Cup as champions of the continent covering North and Central America and the Caribbean. …More
