Tokyo, which will hold the women's opening and final matches, is, needless to say, Japan's capital city and its entire population is about twelve million. The opening ceremony for the '77 World Cup took place at the gym - staged for the first time in Japan - and this year will be the ninth time to host the World Cup both for men and women. The Tokyo Metropolitan gymnasium, the competition venue for the opening and final matches of the Site A, which Japan will participate, was refurbished in 1990 and is equipped with high-tech machinery and 10,000 seats.
